The Shastri Park to Mayur Vihar Phase 3 metro route is a proposed 13.197 km corridor under Delhi Metro Phase 5B. It is listed as the sixth corridor in the seven-corridor Phase 5B package announced by the Delhi government on May 2–3, 2026.
East Delhi has grown rapidly over two decades, yet its metro network has lagged behind. Residential zones like Kondli, Kalyanpuri, Trilokpuri, and Mayur Vihar Phase 3 have poor direct metro access toward central Delhi. Commuters from these areas rely on road transport, which is prone to congestion near Yamuna bridges and market intersections. The Shastri Park to Mayur Vihar Phase 3 metro corridor aims to close this gap. It will operate as an independent metro line linking the trans-Yamuna region directly to the existing Red, Blue, and Pink lines through three interchange stations.
The corridor is part of a larger Phase 5B plan that will add 97.158 km and 65 stations to the Delhi Metro network at an estimated cost of Rs 48,204.56 crore.
The Shastri Park to Mayur Vihar Phase 3 metro route is an independent metro line proposed under Delhi Metro Phase 5B. It runs from Shastri Park in the north to Mayur Vihar Phase 3 in the east, passing through several densely populated and commercially active areas of East Delhi.
The corridor is not an extension of any existing metro line. It will function as a standalone line connecting the trans-Yamuna region to the existing Delhi Metro network via interchange stations at three key nodes.
Before this corridor was proposed, residents of Mayur Vihar Phase 3, New Kondli, and Patparganj had to travel by road to reach the nearest metro stations such as Mayur Vihar Phase 1 (Blue and Pink lines), Trilokpuri Sanjay Lake (Pink Line), or Nirman Vihar (Blue Line). The new corridor will bring a metro station directly to or near these localities and reduce dependence on road-based transport.
The corridor fits into the broader Delhi Metro network expansion goal. According to DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar, the overall Phase 5 network across Delhi-NCR is expected to reach approximately 200 km.

The Shastri Park to Mayur Vihar Phase 3 metro route runs roughly in a northeast-to-east direction through central and eastern parts of Delhi, linking the Yamuna riverbank area to the far end of the Mayur Vihar cluster.

Route alignment overview:
The line originates at Shastri Park, which is an at-grade station on the existing Red Line (Line 1) running between Rithala and Shaheed Sthal. From here, the new corridor travels eastward. It passes through Kailash Nagar and Gandhi Nagar market, two of East Delhi's most active commercial zones. The route then continues through Geeta Colony before reaching Nirman Vihar, where it connects with the existing Blue Line (Line 2). From Nirman Vihar, the corridor moves south and east through Patparganj (near the Mother Dairy area), then on to Trilokpuri Sanjay Lake, where it intersects with the Pink Line (Line 7). The line then continues further east, passing through New Kondli and terminating at Mayur Vihar Phase 3.
Underground and elevated sections:
The mix of underground and elevated track reflects the dense urban nature of the route. Areas such as Gandhi Nagar market, Kailash Nagar, and Geeta Colony have narrow roads and high building density, making underground alignment the practical choice through those stretches.
Key areas covered by the corridor:
| Parameter | Details |
|---|---|
| Route Length | 13.197 km |
| Underground Section | 8.99 km |
| Elevated Section | 4.207 km |
| Number of Stations | 8 |
| Interchange Stations | 3 (Shastri Park, Nirman Vihar, Trilokpuri Sanjay Lake) |
| Estimated Travel Time (End to End) | Approximately 20 to 25 minutes (estimated, not officially announced) |
| Type | Independent Metro Line |
Comparison with current road-based travel:
Commuters travelling from Mayur Vihar Phase 3 to Shastri Park by road currently face a journey of roughly 14 to 16 km (depending on the route), with travel times ranging from 40 to 70 minutes during peak hours due to congestion near Yamuna bridges, the Patparganj road stretch, and Gandhi Nagar intersections. The metro corridor, once operational, is expected to reduce this to under 25 minutes regardless of traffic conditions.
| Route | Current Road Travel (Peak) | Proposed Metro Travel |
|---|---|---|
| Mayur Vihar Phase 3 to Shastri Park | 40 to 70 minutes | ~20 to 25 minutes |
| New Kondli to Nirman Vihar (Blue Line) | 30 to 50 minutes | ~15 to 18 minutes |
| Patparganj to Shastri Park | 30 to 55 minutes | ~12 to 16 minutes |
Note: Metro travel time estimates are based on standard DMRC operating speeds for similar corridor lengths. Official figures have not been announced.
The following eight stations are proposed along the Shastri Park to Mayur Vihar Phase 3 metro route. Station names and exact locations are subject to change as the DPR is reviewed and revised.
| Station No. | Proposed Station | Area Served | Interchange |

Which metro line is Shastri Park on?
Shastri Park is on the Red Line (Line 1) of the Delhi Metro. It is an at-grade station located in Metro Vihar, Shahdara, Delhi, with station code SHPK. The station opened on December 25, 2002, making it one of the original stations in the Delhi Metro network.
Shastri Park is also the depot station for the Red Line. All metro trainsets operating on the Red Line are housed at the Shastri Park depot. The station sits between the Yamuna Bank side to the west and Seelampur to the east on the Red Line.
The Red Line runs 34.55 km from Rithala in the west to Shaheed Sthal (New Bus Adda) in Ghaziabad in the east, with 29 stations and a daily ridership of approximately 3.74 lakh passengers (as per published DMRC data).
Shastri Park is well positioned as the northern terminus of the new Phase 5B corridor because it connects the trans-Yamuna East Delhi area directly to the central Delhi Red Line corridor, providing access to destinations such as Kashmere Gate (interchange with Yellow and Violet lines), Rajiv Chowk, and eventually Rithala.
Under the proposed Phase 5B plan, the new Shastri Park to Mayur Vihar Phase 3 corridor will use Shastri Park as a junction, making it a two-line interchange station for the first time.
Which metro station is nearest to Mayur Vihar Phase 3?
As of mid-2026, the nearest operational metro stations to Mayur Vihar Phase 3 are:
What is the new name of Mayur Vihar metro station?
The Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 metro station on the Pink Line was officially renamed Shree Ram Mandir Mayur Vihar after a Delhi government decision. This station is located on Trilokpuri Road, Mayur Vihar Phase 1, and opened on December 31, 2018. The Blue Line station at Mayur Vihar Phase 1 retains its standard name and serves as an interchange with the Pink Line at that node.
The proposed new corridor under Phase 5B is expected to bring the metro directly to or adjacent to Mayur Vihar Phase 3, ending the current dependence on feeder vehicles.
DMRC follows a distance-based fare structure. As of August 25, 2025, DMRC revised fares for the first time in eight years. The revised fare slabs are:

Corridor VI (Shastri Park to Mayur Vihar Phase 3) specific cost:
A separate cost breakdown for Corridor VI has not been officially released. Based on Phase 5B's average cost per km (approximately Rs 3,652 crore per km across all seven corridors), and accounting for the corridor's high proportion of underground construction (8.99 km underground), the cost for this specific corridor has not yet been disclosed by DMRC or the Delhi Governmen. This estimate is based on comparable underground-heavy metro corridors in Delhi and cannot be taken as an official figure.
Funding mechanism:
Delhi Metro projects are typically funded through a combination of:

The Shastri Park to Mayur Vihar Phase 3 metro corridor is expected to benefit a large daily commuter population in East Delhi.
Gandhi Nagar market is one of Asia's largest wholesale cloth markets and draws tens of thousands of traders, buyers, and workers every day. At present, these commuters rely almost entirely on road transport. A metro station in Gandhi Nagar will give them a reliable, schedule-independent travel option.
Geeta Colony and Kailash Nagar are densely populated residential areas with working populations commuting to Connaught Place, the Central Secretariat area, and Noida. A direct metro connection at these locations will save them the time currently spent in road-based commutes via Laxmi Nagar or ITO.
Patparganj and the IP Extension area house a large number of professionals commuting to the Noida belt and central Delhi. Currently, they access the metro from Mayur Vihar Phase 1 or Nirman Vihar using feeder transport. A station at Patparganj reduces feeder travel entirely for many commuters.
New Kondli and Mayur Vihar Phase 3 residents, currently the furthest from any metro station, will benefit most. Their travel time to central Delhi by metro will drop from the current 70-plus minutes by road to under 40 minutes door-to-door with feeder access.
Three interchange stations will allow commuters to switch lines without exiting the paid area:
| Area | Current Metro Access | Post-Corridor Access |
|---|---|---|
| Shastri Park | Red Line (Existing) | Red Line + New Phase 5B Line |
| Kailash Nagar | No Direct Station | New Station on Phase 5B Line |
| Gandhi Nagar | No Direct Station | New Station on Phase 5B Line |
| Geeta Colony | No Direct Station | New Station on Phase 5B Line |
| Nirman Vihar | Blue Line (Existing) | Blue Line + Phase 5B Interchange |
| Patparganj | Nearest: Nirman Vihar / Mayur Vihar Phase 1 | Dedicated Station on Phase 5B Line |
| Trilokpuri | Pink Line (Trilokpuri Sanjay Lake, Elevated) | Pink Line + Phase 5B Interchange |
| New Kondli | No Direct Station | New Station on Phase 5B Line |
| Mayur Vihar Phase 3 | Nearest: Trilokpuri (~1.5 km) | Terminus Station on Phase 5B Line |
| Ghazipur (Nearby) | Limited | Improved via Red Line Interchange at Shastri Park |
The corridor also improves east-west connectivity across Delhi by linking the Red Line (north of the Yamuna) with the Blue Line (east-west axis) and the Pink Line (circular route). Commuters previously required multiple interchanges via Rajiv Chowk or Yamuna Bank to travel between these corridors.
Metro infrastructure has a documented positive impact on residential and commercial property values in India. Historical examples from the Delhi Metro network show measurable effects:
| Locality | Current Average Price (Per Sq Ft) | Expected Direction Post-Metro |
|---|---|---|
| Shastri Park Area | Not widely tracked for residential | Marginal impact, as the area already has Red Line connectivity |
| Gandhi Nagar | Commercial-dominant, limited residential stock | Higher footfall may support growth in commercial rents |
| Geeta Colony | Rs 8,000 to Rs 11,000 | Upward pressure expected for properties near the proposed station |
| Mayur Vihar Phase 3 | Rs 9,242 to Rs 13,143 (Aurum PropTech, 2025) with 32.41% five-year growth | Further upward pressure expected due to the direct metro terminus |
| New Kondli | Among the most affordable residential pockets in East Delhi | Likely to see above-average appreciation as metro access improves |
| Patparganj | Rs 10,000 to Rs 14,000 | Moderate upward pressure expected from the dedicated metro station |
Property appreciation forecasts should be treated with caution. Final station locations, construction timelines, and economic conditions at the time of the corridor's opening will all influence actual outcomes. The project is still awaiting central government clearance and no construction has begun.
Commuters from Mayur Vihar Phase 3 to central Delhi nodes currently take the following routes:
| Origin to Destination | Current Route | Current Travel Time (Approx.) | Post-Corridor Route | Estimated Post-Corridor Time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mayur Vihar Phase 3 to Connaught Place | Road to Mayur Vihar Phase 1 + Blue Line | 55 to 80 minutes | Phase 5B to Nirman Vihar + Blue Line | 35 to 45 minutes |
| Mayur Vihar Phase 3 to Kashmere Gate | Road to Mayur Vihar Phase 1 + Blue Line + Interchange | 65 to 90 minutes | Phase 5B to Shastri Park + Red Line | 40 to 55 minutes |
| New Kondli to Lajpat Nagar | Road + Pink Line from Trilokpuri | 60 to 85 minutes | Phase 5B to Trilokpuri + Pink Line | 40 to 55 minutes |
| Gandhi Nagar to Rajiv Chowk | Road via Laxmi Nagar or ITO | 40 to 70 minutes | Phase 5B to Nirman Vihar or Shastri Park + Line Transfer | 30 to 40 minutes |
Approvals: The project has Delhi government approval but is awaiting central government clearance. Delhi Metro projects require joint financial sanction from both governments. This step has historically taken anywhere from several months to over a year.
DPR revision: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has directed DMRC to prepare revised DPRs separately for priority and non-priority corridors. Whether Corridor VI (Shastri Park to Mayur Vihar Phase 3) is classified as a priority corridor will determine how quickly it advances.
Underground construction complexity: With 8.99 km of the 13.197 km corridor going underground, construction in areas like Gandhi Nagar market and Geeta Colony will be complex. These are densely built urban areas with old buildings, narrow lanes, utility networks, and high footfall. Tunnel-boring in such areas requires detailed geotechnical surveys and utility mapping before tenders can be floated.
Land acquisition: Metro corridors in East Delhi have historically faced land challenges. The Pink Line construction through Trilokpuri experienced delays due to land issues, as documented in earlier DMRC records.
Environmental clearances: Underground metro projects require environmental impact assessments and clearances from relevant authorities.
Priority status uncertainty: Of the seven Phase 5B corridors, four have been identified as priority projects targeted for completion by 2029. Officials have not confirmed whether Corridor VI is among them. If it is a non-priority corridor, it may be developed in a second phase after the priority corridors are completed.
The Shastri Park to Mayur Vihar Phase 3 metro corridor fills a gap in the Delhi Metro network that has existed since the system's founding. The trans-Yamuna region, including Shahdara, Geeta Colony, Gandhi Nagar, Trilokpuri, Kondli, and Mayur Vihar Phase 3, holds a dense working-class and middle-class population. Until now, metro access into this zone has been limited to the Red Line (which only skims the northern edge via Shahdara and Welcome), the Blue Line (which reaches into Mayur Vihar Phase 1), and the Pink Line (which covers Trilokpuri and Mayur Vihar Phase 2).
The interior of the trans-Yamuna zone, including Gandhi Nagar market, Kailash Nagar, Geeta Colony, New Kondli, and Patparganj, has had no direct metro coverage.
The new corridor stitches together these previously isolated neighbourhoods and connects them to three existing metro lines via interchanges at Shastri Park, Nirman Vihar, and Trilokpuri Sanjay Lake. This means commuters from Mayur Vihar Phase 3 can reach the Red Line, Blue Line, or Pink Line without changing to road transport at any point.
The corridor also supports Delhi's broader urban transport policy of reducing private vehicle dependency and road congestion. The Gandhi Nagar market area generates exceptionally high daily vehicle movement. Metro access to this zone has the potential to reduce a measurable share of commercial vehicle and auto-rickshaw traffic on surrounding roads.

The Shastri Park to Mayur Vihar Phase 3 metro corridor is a 13.197 km independent metro line proposed under Delhi Metro Phase 5B. The Delhi government approved the project on May 2, 2026, and the DPR has been submitted to the central government for Union Cabinet clearance.
The corridor has eight proposed stations, three interchange points with existing metro lines, and a combination of underground (8.99 km) and elevated (4.207 km) sections. It is part of a seven-corridor Phase 5B package covering 97.158 km at a total estimated cost of Rs 48,204.56 crore.
The project addresses a long-standing connectivity gap in the trans-Yamuna region of East Delhi. Areas such as Gandhi Nagar, Geeta Colony, Kailash Nagar, Patparganj, New Kondli, and Mayur Vihar Phase 3 have lacked direct metro access for over two decades despite dense population growth. The corridor will give these areas direct connections to the Red, Blue, and Pink lines via interchanges and reduce commute times to central Delhi by 20 to 40 minutes compared to current road-based travel.
Construction has not started. Central government approval, financial sanction, and revised DPR submission are the immediate next milestones. The corridor's completion timeline depends on whether it receives priority status in the Phase 5B execution plan.
It is a proposed 13.197 km independent metro corridor under Delhi Metro Phase 5B, announced on May 3, 2026, by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. It will connect Shastri Park in north-east Delhi to Mayur Vihar Phase 3 in the east through eight stations.
Shastri Park is on the Red Line (Line 1) of the Delhi Metro. It is an at-grade depot station that opened on December 25, 2002, and is located between Seelampur and Welcome stations.
As of mid-2026, the nearest operational metro stations are Trilokpuri Sanjay Lake on the Pink Line (approximately 1.5 to 2 km away) and Mayur Vihar Phase 1 on the Blue and Pink lines (approximately 3 to 3.5 km away). The proposed Phase 5B corridor will bring a metro terminus directly to Mayur Vihar Phase 3.
The Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 station on the Pink Line was officially renamed Shree Ram Mandir Mayur Vihar. The Mayur Vihar Phase 1 Blue Line station retains its standard name and continues to serve as an interchange with the Pink Line.
Shastri Park is a neighbourhood in Shahdara, East Delhi. It houses the main maintenance depot of the Delhi Metro Red Line. The Shastri Park metro station was one of the original stations on the Delhi Metro network, inaugurated on December 25, 2002.
The proposed route is 13.197 km in total length, with 8.99 km underground and 4.207 km elevated.
Eight stations are proposed. Three of them are interchange stations.
Three interchange stations are proposed: Shastri Park (Red Line), Nirman Vihar (Blue Line), and Trilokpuri Sanjay Lake (Pink Line).
Based on the current DMRC fare slab for 12 to 21 km (which covers the 13.197 km corridor distance), the estimated fare is approximately Rs 43 by token and Rs 39 by smart card. Official fares have not been announced.
The full Phase 5B package of seven corridors is estimated at Rs 48,204.56 crore. A separate cost breakdown for Corridor VI (Shastri Park to Mayur Vihar Phase 3) has not been officially released.
The Delhi government approved the project on May 2, 2026. The DPR has been submitted to the central government. Union Cabinet clearance is pending as of June 2026.
No. Construction has not started. Central government approval and financial sanction must be completed before work begins.
The Delhi government has set a 2029 target for four priority Phase 5B corridors. Whether Corridor VI is among those four priority corridors has not been officially confirmed. If it is classified as non-priority, the completion timeline will extend beyond 2029.
Yes. It is part of Delhi Metro Phase 5B, which is the second batch of Phase 5 corridors. Delhi Metro Phase 5A (three shorter corridors) received Union Cabinet approval in December 2025. Phase 5B (seven corridors) received Delhi government approval in May 2026 and is awaiting central government clearance.
As of June 2026, the Delhi government has approved Phase 5B and the DPR has been submitted to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The proposal is awaiting Union Cabinet clearance. No construction tender has been floated.
The main beneficiary areas include Shastri Park, Kailash Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Geeta Colony, Nirman Vihar, Patparganj, Trilokpuri, New Kondli, and Mayur Vihar Phase 3. Indirectly, areas in Ghazipur and along the Noida border will benefit from improved interchange access.
The trans-Yamuna region of East Delhi lacks direct metro access in its interior. The corridor will close this gap, reduce commute times by 20 to 40 minutes for hundreds of thousands of daily commuters, and create interchange connections with three existing metro lines.
Historical metro expansion data from Delhi and other Indian cities shows residential and commercial properties near new stations tend to appreciate over the medium term. Mayur Vihar Phase 3 already showed 32.41% price growth over five years (per Aurum PropTech, 2025). A metro terminus in the area could support continued upward price movement. Property forecasts should be treated as directional and not as confirmed outcomes.
The corridor's terminus is at Mayur Vihar Phase 3 and does not extend into Noida. However, commuters from Noida can interchange at Mayur Vihar Phase 1 (Blue Line) or Trilokpuri Sanjay Lake (Pink Line) to access the new corridor.
Delhi Metro Phase 5B is the second batch of corridors under Phase 5, announced by the Delhi government in May 2026. It covers seven new corridors totalling 97.158 km with 65 stations at an estimated cost of Rs 48,204.56 crore. The corridors are: Dhansa Bus Stand to Nangloi, Central Secretariat to Kishangarh, Samaypur Badli to Narela, Kirti Nagar to Palam, Jor Bagh to Mithapur, Shastri Park to Mayur Vihar Phase 3, and one additional corridor.
End-to-end travel time is estimated at approximately 20 to 25 minutes for the full 13.197 km. This estimate is based on typical DMRC operating speeds. Official figures have not been released.
Current road travel from Mayur Vihar Phase 3 to Shastri Park takes 40 to 70 minutes during peak hours. The metro corridor is expected to reduce this to 20 to 25 minutes, a saving of 20 to 45 minutes per trip.
